I absolutely love teaching the Saltshaker ABF class and serving as an Elder of Grace Church. I am constantly challenging students of the class and the Elder Team to be in God’s Word and to be in prayer. I have recently encouraged our class to not overlook the Old Testament in their devotional readings and in doing so I felt I needed to practice what I teach. There is such a wealth of good meat and knowledge to be found there.
Most recently in my devotions, I came across something special in Exodus 23. Verses 20-22 say, “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. Pay attention to him and listen to what he says. Do not rebel against him; he will not forgive your rebellion since my Name is in him. If you listen carefully to what he says and do all that I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.
This Angel that the Lord sent to keep Israel on the right path may have been a special guardian angel, perhaps Michael, or even the Lord himself. I am so thankful that, as a believer, I have the same Angel watching over and guiding me. I am reminded in this scripture that I must listen carefully to what he says, be obedient, and not rebel against him. I must also know what he is saying! How? By reading his word and being in prayer. I can count the times I have experienced the protection and care of this Angel. This would include close calls on the road when driving, near-death experiences growing up as a child, victory over adversaries, and victory over specific sins in my life.
In my heart, I want to think this Angel is the Lord himself. Knowing I am protected brings me peace and comfort in times of trouble and rocky road experiences. What an advocate! There could be no greater enemy to my enemies than the Lord himself. Just as important is the fact this Angel will bring me to the place God has prepared for me, into His kingdom, sitting at the great feast of celebration when I am called home. Guess what…if you are a believer you have this same Angel watching over you. What a great feeling to know you are protected, you can experience victory over your adversaries, and you have a place prepared for you in Heaven.
Finally, I pray for this Angelic protector to watch over my wife, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters. Take time to praise God for your guardian Angel and ask Him to watch over those you love. And don’t forget, to be in the Word and pray.
