As kids head back to school and the nights get longer and louder (amazing how boisterous those little crickets can be!) don’t you find yourself asking, “Where did the summer go?” As I write these words the calendar next to my computer shouts at me something that I really don’t want to hear, “Today is the LAST day of August!” Yep! Tomorrow is September 1st. And September 1st is the first day of meteorological autumn! Before we know it, we will be revving up our snow blowers!
For me, this summer raced by especially fast. Grace Church graciously gave me a sabbatical which ran from the end of June to the end of August. During this time away from the pressures of my routine of pastoral ministry, I was able to recoup and (I hope) return to my ministry with renewed energy and faith (check out my blog post, PJ’s Spiritual Meanderings, for more details). As I look back at the past nine weeks, I can hardly believe they are gone!
All this reminds us that time does indeed pass quickly. In the grand scheme of eternity our lives are but a puff of steam (James 4:13-14). So it is of utmost importance that we don’t waste our lives in pursuit of stuff that really doesn’t matter! Instead we need to heed the call of Jesus to “seek first the kingdom of God!” For it is only in seeking God and his kingdom that we will live a life that truly matters!
Here at Grace we have an exciting fall season planned. Opportunities for you to join us and grow in your faith journey with Jesus Christ. Please take a moment to check out our Opportunities Guide. I invite you to come and check us out as we pursue the God who loved us in such a way that he gave his son to die for us! Now that’s love!
