Summer officially arrived at 12:24 am on Wednesday, June 21st. Appropriate considering that day was day #3 in our week of Vacation Bible School (something we’ve been hosting for many, many years!) Apart from heat waves and mowing our lawns, I would guess most people enjoy summer. It brings a welcome change of pace for most of us. We may take a vacation (or two). We get to spend some extra time with our kids. Life just seems to slow down … even if just a bit! There’s a reason for the expression, “the lazy days of summer!”
This makes summer an excellent time to just kick back and take some time to evaluate how you are doing in your walk with Christ. Donald Whitney, best selling author and Director of the Center for Biblical Spirituality, offers the helpful resource, Ten Questions to Ask at the Start of the New Year or on Your Birthday. Let me suggest you tackle just his first question (and if you want to do more … click here for the full list). His first question reads, “What’s one thing you could do this year (summer) to increase your enjoyment of God?” Give that some thought. And then take a step or two forward in your journey of faith!
