On Monday, the eight teens and three leaders from the missions trip arrived early at Momentum after bidding their final farewells to the Hollinger family. In the afternoon, the rest of the youth group joined them.
Most of Tuesday was full of free time, the majority of which was used for playing volleyball and hanging out with each other. In the evening, however, Momentum Youth Conference began! Speaker Clayton King kicked off the first session of Momentum Youth Conference. He outlined the theme of the week, talking about our identity in Christ: we are God’s house, God’s chosen people, God’s possession, and aliens and strangers in this world. His message sowed the seeds for what would happen the following morning.
On Wednesday, Clayton King spoke once again in the morning session. His powerful message led many teens to accept Jesus for the first time: in our youth group alone, ten teens dedicated their lives to Christ! It was a truly powerful moment for each person in the room, both for those who accepted Christ and those watching friends make the most important decision of their lives!
Wednesday evening, speaker Afshin Ziafat challenged us to take a look at our faith. He said faith receives God’s word, obeys God’s word, perseveres, and influences. He challenged us to look at our lives and see if we’re taking the initiative to bury ourselves in God’s word and to be devoted to following Him, or if our faith consists of us bouncing from youth retreat to youth retreat, without any effort from ourselves.
God has done amazing things so far in only the first day-and-a-half of Momentum, and we still have several days left. We’re all excited to grow closer as a youth group and to see what God will be doing next!
