In February of 2017, Grace Church will send a team to minister at the Source of Life safe house and Haiti Health Ministries. Source of Life is a small “safe home”/orphanage, which houses fourteen children. Haiti Health Ministries is an outpatient medical clinic that treats about 130 patients daily. Both Source of Life and Haiti Health Ministries are in the town of Gressier. We’re trusting in God to call His tradesman, medical personnel and other workers to use their professional skills to share the Gospel in word and deed.
Members of this team will commit to spending quality time as a group in God’s Word, developing strong team relationships, sharing the Gospel as God gives us opportunity, and showing the love of Christ to those we meet along the way. We will also be visiting a Haitian church.
Skills: Building, Electrical
We need electricians, carpenters, engineers, seamstresses, and all kinds of helpers to complete several large maintenance and improvement projects. Grace Church is part of a coalition businesses, individuals, and other churches who are connected to the ministry at Source of Life. As God provides the personnel and funds, the construction team plans to:
- Build a security wall.
- Build a hurricane shelter.
- Install a LED security lighting for the facility and upgrading the “off grid” solar and wind system.
- Improve a storm water management system that facilitates gathering rain water for crop irrigation.
We are also coordinating a medical team to serve and care for patients at Haiti Health Ministries. Ideally, this team will include 1 or 2 doctors or other providers (nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant), 1-2 nurses, a medical/lab technician or a pharmacist/technician, or even a sonography/X-ray tech. People without medical training can also join the team, helping to count pills, clean out-patient charts, or paint.
Team member Marie Prichard and her sewing helpers made school uniforms for the Source of Life kids this year. She is currently working on getting a Singer treadle sewing machine ready for transport to Source of Life for the purpose of teaching the adult women caretakers (and any students who are interested) the basics of machine sewing.
She is also investigating helping the students produce a product that could be sold a local outdoor market stand. The sewing training is designed to help the caretakers and children to develop a skill that could provide a source of income in their adult years.
Marie needs seamstresses to work on school uniforms here in the States and another treadle sewing machine in good working order.
If you are interested in ministering with the Haiti Team in February 2017, please contact team leader Chris Brosey for more information.
